Meet: Jessica Sproule

After searching for more community-inclusive activities in the Calgary area, Jessica was referred to CPLF in 2003 by PDD. Jess now plays an active role in the CPLF community as a brand ambassador, bringing her positivity and energy to every event she attends. She met Ben, the love of her life at a group home known as The Ashley House. As they got to know each other, they began enjoying fun activities around the city, like visits to the Crossroads Market and a regular date at Denny’s. As their relationship blossomed, they got engaged in February 1999, marrying soon after in June that same year. They started their lives together in a cozy apartment in Calgary and later purchased a condo, marking the start of their independent journey.

Travelling the World

Moving into their own place meant new responsibilities, from grocery shopping to handling household tasks. With the guidance of CPLF through her Case Manager, Rose, and Jessica’s supportive family, Jess and Ben grew more independent. Jessica made remarkable strides, setting goals and consistently reaching new heights in personal growth. Together, they’ve journeyed across North America, traveling to exciting places like California, Nashville, and Florida. Each adventure brought them closer and built cherished memories. Even their condo became a project, with Jessica and Ben tackling renovations and personalizing their space together.

Looking Forward To The Future

As Jessica and Ben celebrate 25 years of marriage, they continue to inspire others in the community. With CPLF’s support, they’re proof that with determination and encouragement, one can achieve incredible milestones. We look forward to seeing all the new memories Jessica will make as she continues her journey as part of the CPLF family! Jessica’s heartwarming message as an advocate of people with varying abilities is to: “Live your dreams to the fullest. Don’t let anyone tell you that ‘you can’t.’ Disability is just a perception. Choose what’s best for you and enjoy small moments; they are important. Connect with those who nourish you, love yourself first, and the rest will follow!”
