Respite Support Worker

We are seeking 2 Respite care providers  in Calgary, AB. The successful candidate will provide Respite care in their own approved homes for 2 days in a week.

The client to be supported is a middle aged female diagnosed with cerebral palsy, scoliosis, visual impairment, and hard of hearing. She has difficulties managing anxiety and personal boundaries and may appear possessive of staff. She is perseverative and can fixate on topics for weeks at a time. Has a history of becoming frustrated due to communication challenges or being denied a request.

The Ideal Candidate;

  • Must have experience to support complex needs client.
  • Must be adept at American Sign language (ASL) – at least ASL Level 2
  • Will be responsible to assist individual with home living activities and ensuring the safety and wellness of the individual.
  • Is required to provide companionship as well as promote community inclusion.
  • Has their medication administration certification (will train if not).
  • Has their CPI certificate (will train if not).

Essential Duties:

  • Implement the activities outlined in the Individual Service Plan.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning and tidying up living areas
  • Help with mobility and transfers, including lifting and transferring clients who may have limited mobility
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Prepare and serve meals according to dietary needs and restrictions
  • Closely follow agency Philosophy and Values in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Attend support team meetings, bringing forward information or concerns regarding the individual clients’ service.
  • Keep daily logs and documentation of activities.
  • Assist with and/or accompany individuals to appointments as required.
  • Ensure that the individuals’ health, safety, and wellbeing are maintained at all times.
  • Assist the individual in any area they may require assistance in.
  • Any other duties relevant to the position and individual’s needs as may be required.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (relevant educational background preferred).
  • Previous experience as a caregiver or in a related field is preferred
  • Previous experience with managing complex needs clients preferred
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and procedures is a plus
  • Knowledge of American Sign language (ASL) – at least ASL Level 2
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor when working with clients
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team

Virtual Learning Support Worker

We are currently seeking a dedicated Virtual Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide educational support and guidance to an autistic individual in a virtual environment.

Other responsibilities:

  • Establish a positive and trusting relationship with the autistic individual.
  • Implement pre-developed support plans tailored to the individual’s unique needs and goals.
  • Provide emotional support and actively listen to the individual’s concerns and challenges.
  • Encourage and facilitate engagement in social activities and hobbies.
  • Collaborate with the individual’s family and other support team members to ensure a holistic approach to support.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of progress and activities.

Residential Provider / In-Home Respite - Rienforced Home

We are seeking a residential provider/in-home respite in Calgary. The successful candidate will accommodate the client in their home and provide support in all areas of daily living such as relationship building and leisure participation, as well as mental health and behavioral support. Strong communication and teamwork skills are required to succeed in this position, as is the ability to liaison with family and managers.

The ideal candidate must be able to;

  • Implement the activities outlined in the Individual Service Plan.
  • Assist individual with home living activities and ensuring the safety and wellness of the individual.
  • Provide companionship as well as promote community inclusion. This includes driving the client to and from evening and weekend activities and staying at the activity site while he/she participates.
  • Provide support for complex needs clients who can display escalated behavior’s including yelling and using profanity.
  • Closely follow agency Philosophy and Values in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Attend monthly support team meetings, bringing forward information or concerns regarding the individual clients’ service.
  • Keep daily logs and documentation of activities.
  • Assist with and/or accompany individuals to appointments as required.
  • Ensure that the individuals’ health, safety, and wellbeing are always maintained.
  • Assist the individual in any area they may require assistance in.
  • Perform any other duties relevant to the position and individual’s needs as may be required.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

The ideal support home should have;

  • Reinforced Basements/Rooms
  • No other supported individuals in the support home.
  • No vulnerable individuals in the home (for safety reasons).
  • Wheelchair access or walk-in shower (An added bonus)

Casual Complex Needs Support Workers

CPLF is currently seeking Casual Complex Needs Support Workers to work with Complex Needs clients. As a Complex Care Support Worker, you will play a critical role in improving the quality of life for our clients by delivering personalized, holistic, and person-centered care. You will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, and case managers to ensure the highest level of care and support.

Our Complex care support workers are compassionate, dedicated, resilient individuals with a positive attitude and a strong commitment to providing exceptional care to those with complex healthcare needs.

In addition, our ideal candidate should: 

  • Have skills, and knowledge to effectively provide the multi-dimensional support needed for complex care needs. 
  • Be able to provide learning support, physical assistance with day-to-day activities including grooming and personal care, and assistance with taking medication, monitoring blood pressure, dressing wounds, and more. 
  • Be capable of providing comprehensive and individualized care to clients with complex healthcare needs, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being is maintained. 
  • Know and be able to administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed by healthcare professionals working with case managers, following established protocols and guidelines. 
  • Recognize potential crisis and emergency situations, analyze situation accurately and promptly determine strategies to employ to diffuse situation. • Be able to utilize advanced techniques and strategies to manage and de-escalate aggressive behaviors in clients, while ensuring the safety of both the client and the care team. 
  • Be able to employ de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, and calming strategies to defuse aggressive situations and prevent harm to clients and others. 
  • Be able to provide direct personal care to clients, including assistance with activities of daily living, while using techniques that minimize stress and anxiety for the client. 
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to provide consistent support. 

 

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary diploma or equivalent is required. Additional certifications or degrees in psychology, behavioral therapy, social work, or related fields are advantageous. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors, and complex medical needs or a willingness to learn/acquire required skills is essential. 
  • Excellent crisis management, communication, and de-escalation skills. Strong understanding of behavior modification techniques and behavior management strategies. 
  • Valid CPR and first aid certifications are required. Training in crisis prevention and intervention techniques is highly recommended. 
  • Valid Police Clearance Check with Vulnerable Persons Check and/or Child Welfare Check (within the last two years) • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Support Workers

CPLF is currently seeking Support Workers to work with various clients. Support Workers provide direct support for clientele as identified in their Individual Support Plans. Support Workers assist clients in their physical, social, emotional, and daily life skills development. This increases their independence and allows them to function appropriately in the community.

The ideal candidate:

  • Supports clients to function more safely and independently. Facilitates physical, recreational, social, and educational activities that focus on client goals.
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs.
  • Recognizes potential emergency situations, analyzes situations accurately, support the development of strategies to deal with such situations i.e. dispensing medication, dealing with client’s aggressive behavior to ensure no harm comes to the client, staff and/or the public.
  • Monitors clients’ progress and well-being and assists case management team in evaluating the effectiveness of planned counseling and support. Provides suggestions for the modification of clients’ program plans.
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to clients (and their families and friends where concerned).
  • Acts as a positive role model for clients, providing life skills training and behavior management. Depending on client type, may assist with hygiene, grooming, dispensing, and administering medication.
  • Maintains written reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Encourages and facilitates the participation of individuals in the program. Creates a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to enhance the program’s appeal to clients.

Supportive Roommate - Wheelchair Accessible Home

We are seeking a residential and/or in-home respite provider with a wheelchair accessible home. Our client is a mature male, and requires a home with a lift or ramp and a walk-in shower to make transfers and bathing less strenuous. Due to requiring assistance with bathing and transfers, this individual prefers a male supportive roommate.
 
The successful candidate will provide support in all areas of daily living, relationship building, and leisure participation, as well as mental health and behavioural support. They will provide personal care and grooming for our client, as well as assistance feeding. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team as well as with families are required for this position, as is being comfortable around people with disabilities. The ability to perform lifts and transfers are also required.
 
The ideal support home should have;
 
  • No other supported individuals in the support home.
  • Preferably no children in the home (for safety reasons).
  • A bedroom on the same floor as staff.
  • No vulnerable adults.
  • May include a mature couple with a male providing primary support
