Job Description

This role will be providing support for a high behaviours, complex needs male in his 30’s diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, OCD and Bipolar Atypical Disorder. He also has a history of aggression to staff and others when agitated as well as self harm such as scratching, biting himself until he bleeds and hitting his head on the wall or the floor. In view of these, the client staffing arrangement is 3:1 support worker to client ratio with all assigned support workers fully trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). It is apposite to mention that client requires personal care and grooming support.Will maintain the home and the individual’s living space and provide healthy meals that are accommodated to his disability. Your role involves demonstrating patience and utilizing problem-solving skills in the following duties:

  • Will be responsible to assist the individual with home living activities, administering medication and ensuring the safety and wellness of the individual. The Supportive Roommate will be the back up staff between 9 pm to 9 am Mondays through Fridays.
  • Is required to provide companionship as well as promote community inclusion.
  • Will maintain the home and the individual’s living space and provide healthy meals that are accommodated to his disability.
  • Will have the physical stature to successfully implement a CPI Hold.

The Support Home

  • Be a basement suite with a kitchen in NW/SE/SW Calgary.
  • Have no young children or vulnerable individuals in the Home. (Preferably a home with more male occupants)

Essential Duties

  • Implement the activities as outlined in the Individual Service Plan. Read, understand and implement the expectations outlined in the individual’s Support plan and support protocols.
  • Closely follow agency Philosophy and Values in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Attend monthly support team meetings, bringing forward information or concerns regarding the individual’s service.
  • Keep logs and provide documentation as required by the Agency.
  • Assist with and/or accompany the individual to appointments as required.
  • Ensure that the individuals’ health, safety, and wellbeing are maintained at all times.
  • Assist the individual in any area they may require assistance in.
  • Any other duties relevant to the position and individual’s needs as may be required.
  • Ability to work with the support team of people who will be working with the client.

Job Requirements

  • Should be fluent in English and able to complete detailed forms/documentation
  • Police Clearance
  • Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Written References


  • Secondary School (preferred)
  • Class 5 Licence (required)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification (required)
