Job Description

The successful candidate will provide a Respite Home in their own approved home for a semi-independent male in his 40’s diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Anti-Social Personality Disorder, Borderline Intellectual Functioning. Asthma and. Arthritis amongst other things. He also has a history being very verbal and argumentative which may appear aggressive when boundaries are being set. This role involves demonstrating patience and utilizing problem-solving skills in the following duties:

  • Will be responsible to assist the individual with home living activities, administering medication and ensuring the safety and wellness of the individual. The Respite Support Home provider will be required to ensure that he is eating healthy and within limit as he is prone to binge eating.
  • Is required to provide companionship as well as promote community inclusion.
  • Will maintain the home and the individual’s living space and provide healthy meals that are accommodated to his disability.
  • Should be fluent in English and able to complete detailed forms/documentation.
  • Must ensure that clients is not left alone in the vicinity of parks, schools or other recreational centers where children may be present.

Essential Duties

  • Implement the activities as outlined in the Individual Service Plan. Read, understand and implement the expectations outlined in the individual’s Support plan and support protocols.
  • Closely follow agency Philosophy and Values in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Attend monthly support team meetings, bringing forward information or concerns regarding the individual’s service.
  • Keep logs and provide documentation as required by the Agency.
  • Assist with and/or accompany the individual to appointments as required.
  • Ensure that the individuals’ health, safety, and wellbeing are maintained at all times.
  • Assist the individual in any area they may require assistance in.
  • Any other duties relevant to the position and individual’s needs as may be required.
  • Ability to work with the support team of people who will be working with the client.

Job Requirements

  • Be located in SE/SW Calgary
  • Have no young children in the Home
  • Police Clearance
  • Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Written References

*Medication administration training and Crisis Prevention Intervention training will be provided.

  1. Resume
  2. 3 References – 2 Work related and 1 Character
  3. Police Clearance with Vulnerable Persons Check and/or Child Welfare Check (within the last two years)
  4. Valid First Aid Certificate “Standard Level C”
  5. GCL Insurance Certificate


  • Secondary School (preferred)
  • Class 5 Licence (required)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification (required)
  • American Sign Language (required)
